Orbotech Presents Latest AOI and Laser Direct Imaging Technologies for North American Bare PCB Industry
23.3.08
IPC Printed Circuits Expo ' February 20, 2007 ' Orbotech, Inc., the North American subsidiary of Orbotech Ltd., is presenting, at Booth #1013, the Company's latest simple, cost-effective and high performance systems designed to meet the production requirements of the bare printed circuit board (PCB) industry in North America. This includes Discovery™ automated optical inspection (AOI) systems, Paragon™ laser direct imaging (LDI) systems, LP-9008 laser plotters and Frontline PCB Solutions' software.

Discovery™ AOI Models and VeriSmart™ Verification and Repair Stations

Discovery - the world's best selling AOI series - is now equipped with the latest technology. This includes a high power optical head, enhanced hardware and state-of-the art algorithms which have been specifically developed to maximize performance on today's multi-layer board (MLB), high density interconnect (HDI), BGA/CSP and phototool applications. With Discovery's new capabilities, users can have simple, highly intelligent and more powerful AOI performance than ever before.

Several Discovery™ models are now available for the North American PCB market. This includes Discovery™ 8000 featuring high throughput, excellent detection and fast setup, Discovery 8200™ for high volume, advanced PCB and HDI production down to 1.4 mil, Ultra Discovery™ EX for fine-line production down to 1 mil line/space and Discovery™ PT for phototool and artwork inspection.

Orbotech's line of verification and repair stations include VeriSmart™ for high quality and high throughput, VeriFine™ for very fine line technology and VeriWide™ for large panels of 26' x 36'. All verification and repair models are available with Orbotech's new Amethyst Technology™ featuring new patent-pending UV illumination which provides an additional clear image of low contrast defects for elimination of defect escapes and ultimate repair results.

Mr. Barry Cohen, President of Orbotech, Inc., said, 'Building on the success of our Discovery AOI series, these new capabilities have a real and immediate impact on the manufacturer's productivity and bottom line.'

Paragon™ LDI Models

With the introduction of its latest Paragon™ models, Orbotech presents a true breakthrough in LDI performance for imaging HDI boards in mass production as well as quick turn around and prototype boards with wide range of materials. Mr. Cohen explained, 'This is a critical milestone that the industry has been waiting for from LDI. We expect that it will enable a new level of production capabilities for manufacturers to keep pace with the rapid change and increasingly complex technology requirements of quick turn around, prototype and advanced HDI boards'. This new LDI solution features a higher energy laser than previous models. The result is high throughput at high resolution while continuing to use low sensitivity photo resist. Also included are automation ready architecture, and other tools to support production such as stamps.

Paragon™-8800 features dual 1/4 and 1/8 mil resolution using an 8W laser for higher throughput on conventional resists with typically 50% faster imaging time than using a 4W laser. Paragon™-6600 provides a cost-effective solution with 160 prints/hour at 1/4 mil.

LP™-9008 Laser Plotter and Frontline PCB Solutions

Also available for the North American market and being highlighted in the booth are Orbotech's high performance LP™-9008 laser plotter and Frontline PCB Solutions' software including Genesis 2000, the world's leading CAM system with new automation capabilities, GenFlex™, pre-production system for flex manufacturing and InPlan™ automatic engineering system.
