What will your job look like

Process demonstrations

  • Demonstrate SPTS processes to meet the agreed specification
  • Assess results using analytical equipment and appropriate software packages (Excel etc)
  • Undertake problem solving and trouble-shooting
  • Provide regular updates to product marketing on progress of sample/demonstration work
  • Develop good relationships with customers
  • Summarise results in a written report or presentation

Process development

  • Develop processes (applicable to SPTS` product)
  • Plan work and execute plans in a safe, sensible and timely manner
  • Contribute constructively to the work of project teams for new products and processes.
  • Research into published work relevant to SPTS’ process development
  • Summarise results in a written report or presentation
  • Write technical reports for patent applications
  • Write technical papers for publication at conferences, seminars etc

Field Support – to involve frequent international travel and longer term international secondments

  • Develop  SPTS processes to meet the agreed specification at customer sites
  • Develop good relationships with customers
  • Communicate results and ideas to relevant co-workers

What will you need to succeed


  • Essential: Degree (min 2.1) in relevant discipline (Physics, Chemistry Material Sciences)
  • Desirable: Masters/PhD degree

Good IT Skills (including as a minimum MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
It is not necessary for the successful candidate to already have the skills and knowledge to perform the roles/responsibilities listed above.  Full on-the-job training will be given and the candidate will learn by experience in the course of carrying out his or her duties.  The job spec is merely illustrative of the types of activities to be learned/undertaken.
