Award honors technology innovators demonstrating global electronics industry leadership

DECEMBER 14, 2016 | ORBOTECH LTD.,a leading provider of process innovation technologies, solutions and equipment enabling the transformation of the global electronics manufacturing industry, today announced its Precise™ 800 Automated Optical Shaping (AOS) System won the EE Times and EDN 2016 Annual Creativity in Electronics (ACE) Award in the Passives, Interconnects, and Electromechanical category. The awards program honors technology innovators demonstrating global electronics industry leadership. The winners were announced at an awards ceremony on Wednesday, December 7, at the Embedded Systems Conference (ESC) Silicon Valley at the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose, CA.

Precise™ 800, an Automated Optical Shaping (AOS) system, is the first solution for advanced HDI and complex multi-layer PCB manufacturing capable of both shaping excess copper (“shorts”) by removing or ablating it as well as depositing and 3D shaping missing copper (“opens”). By ensuring that the original Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) design is accurately produced, this one-stop 3D shaping solution increases PCB yield significantly by virtually eliminating scrap, allowing PCB manufacturers to increase cost savings, lower TCO and achieve a faster return on investment.

With its push-to-shape functionality, this fully automated innovative implementation of digital additive manufacturing represents a complete breakthrough in electronics micro-manufacturing production processes. PCB manufacturers are under pressure to produce cost-sensitive, ever-smaller, functionality-rich devices in high volumes. With its ability to dramatically reduce scrap and improve resource efficiency, the Precise™ 800 meets those requirements with high-quality, meticulous shaping of PCBs.

The 2016 ACE Awards are judged by a prestigious panel of academic and business leaders, as well as EDN and EE Times editors.
